| Located on Sir Winston Churchill Square, the Art Gallery of Alberta (formerly the Edmonton Art Gallery) is a provocative and inviting visual arts center for the city of Edmonton. An existing facility is located on the site. A quarter of this building will be demolished to allow for the end design and construction. The $48 million addition creates 27,000 sf of new construction to the facility. The design will infill and expand upwards a new steel structure to house gallery spaces, administrative functions and rooftop gardens. Through materiality and strategic repositioning on the site, the gallery formally and philosophically extends out to the community. The project also utilizes a wide array of 'green' features and intelligent engineering strategies. In total, the project provides the gallery with 83,000 sf of useable space. |
