This historic Masonic Temple, located in Providence’s Capital Center Development District, is being converted into a hotel. The original building was abandoned prior to completion in 1928 and has remained in an unfinished state for over 75 years. The new 274-room hotel will contain approximately 237,000 sf, including over 10,000 sf of new ballroom and meeting areas, as well as a theme restaurant and spa. The landmark façades will be protected and repaired while a new structural system is installed. The existing floor slabs and interior walls will be demolished and the floors rebuilt. During reconstruction, the existing façade is stabilized by means of a temporary shoring scheme, designed by specialty consultants with expertise in this area. A new 8-story addition containing guestrooms, meeting rooms and banquet facilities will be built to the west of the historic structure. Additionally, a new low rise “in fill” structure is being built to convert the space under the existing Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium to a new ballroom for the hotel. |
