For years, New York City officials tried to rehabilitate the failing ice-skating rink in Central Park. After many unsuccessful attempts, the city appealed to the private sector to restore or rebuild the rink. Donald Trump chose DeSimone Consulting Engineers to find the structural solution. Extensive computer analysis determined that a new facility could be built right on top of the existing rink. The system saved years of expense and expected reconstruction time. Instead of taking three years to build a new rink as others had predicted, this new concrete solution allowed the rink to be completed in just five months. Analysis showed that additional pile and support slab capacities could be obtained so that the existing rink did not have to be removed. The new rink contains miles of plastic tubing to carry the refrigerant. |
