Wombi Rock is a three-story interior mountain clad with translucent onyx panels that are backlit. Onyx’s unpredictable mechanical properties required laminating the stone to glass. These composite panels were connected to a steel framework. The steel was in turn supported by concrete slabs that housed support spaces and a bar. This process was used for the myriad of specialty structures that provide the theme at Mohegan Sun. |
