| The Ritz-Carlton is a mixed-use complex containing parking, theater, residential, hotel, and retail functions. Located in the heart of Georgetown, the building is designed around a historic incinerator, which was renovated as part of the project. The design posed several structural challenges. Its mixed-use program required differing column grids. Transfers were located over the basement level theaters to accommodate load shifts. The sharply sloping site required extensive use of rock bolting and drilled soldier piles. As well, the building extends many floors below ground to gain additional useable space, which further complicated the foundation solution. |
