| Situated in Honolulu, Hawaii, this 1,110,000 sf project for Crescent Heights is designed by Durrant Media Five. It consists of a 48-story condominium tower and a 6-story, contiguous podium/garage structure. The podium-level facility contains various recreational amenities with a lap pool, tennis courts and a putting green. The structural system for the tower is comprised of reinforced concrete columns with flat plate, post-tensioned slabs. The foundation system is comprised of 3-4' diameter drilled pier shafts, approximately 130' in length. Reinforced concrete shear walls provide the lateral system. DeSimone developed innovative structural solutions to address the corridor openings through the shear walls by designing 18 inch-deep structural steel coupling beams. The coupled shear walls with structural steel beams serve as the link between two otherwise tall and slender wall piers. This innovative technique reduces the number of shear walls to only two in the narrow direction and allows for greater architectural flexibility in the unit layouts. |
