Building Envelope Consultant

DeSimone Consulting Engineers is seeking a Building Envelope Consultant to join our Houston, Texas office. Qualified candidates will investigate, evaluate, prepare design solutions, and provide construction administration for exterior building envelope components, including roofs, walls, windows and waterproofing. Responsibilities include close collaboration with architects, engineers, owners, and developers at all project phases to deliver building envelope systems that address architectural intent, long term performance, sustainability, scheduling, and budget objectives

The ideal candidate should have a proven background in diagnosing building envelope conditions and the design of corresponding repairs. In addition, the candidate should have experience managing investigation and litigation support projects involving damage to structures from accidents, catastrophes, construction defects and/or other deficient conditions.

Furthermore, the candidate will be required to coordinate with other team members and project managers on interdisciplinary efforts and in the support of marketing efforts. Candidate should have strong business development skills and an interest in assisting with building a business.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s in Architecture, Engineering or related field
  • A minimum of five years of building envelope engineering experience
  • Experience with the development and review of construction documents
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Competency in statics, hydrothermal, and thermal analysis
  • Knowledge of cladding, fenestration, roofing, and waterproofing systems
  • Extensive knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, SAP 2000, THERM and WUFI
  • Ability to work successfully independently and in a collaborative team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to seek and nurture client relationships
  • Experience providing litigation support including expert testimony

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field
  • Registered Roof Consultant (RRC), Registered Exterior Wall Consultant (REWC), Registered Waterproofing Consultant (RWC), Registered Roof Observer (RRO), Registered Exterior Wall Observer (REWO), LEED AP, or similar industry designations
  • Licensure in architecture or engineering, or near completion
  • Active participation in related industry technical associations (ASTM, RCI, SWR Institute, BEC, etc.)
