Forensic Structural Engineer

DeSimone Consulting Engineers is seeking a Forensic Structural Engineer to support growing operations of the firm’s Forensics Practice.

In addition to award-winning structural design experience, DeSimone provides technical assistance, analysis and investigative services to the Insurance and Legal communities. With a focus on pre and post-loss investigation, analysis, and cause and origin determination, DeSimone’s experienced professionals provide best-in-class service when the built environment is impacted by adverse conditions.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform forensic inspections of structural failures and determine scope of damage and design of corresponding repairs
  • Manage investigation and litigation support projects involving damage to structures from accidents, catastrophes, construction defects an/or other deficient conditions
  • Prepare clear and accurate reports outlining the cause and source of failure
  • Coordinate with other team members and project managers on interdisciplinary efforts
  • Communicate with clients and staff to provide project updates on a regular basis
  • Effectively support the marketing and business development team

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of structural design and repair
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD software
  • Working knowledge of building codes, including local codes as well as the ICC family codes and applicable reference standards
  • Effectively manage multiple projects
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Strong analytical skills in both manual and software-assisted calculation and analysis


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineer (Structural Engineering emphasis)
  • Professional Engineer License
  • 5+ years’ experience in structural design, investigation and repair design
