DeSimone Consulting Engineers is pleased to announce that 520 West 28th Street was selected by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC NY) to receive its Platinum Award for Excellence in structural system design. Miami’s Faena Art District was also selected as a Silver Award recipient for superlative structural design. As project engineers, DeSimone will be honored at ACEC’s 51st Annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala set to take place at the Hilton Midtown in New York on April 7th, 2018.

Designed by the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Zaha Hadid, 520 West 28th Street is an 11-story, residential development that directly overlooks High Line Park in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. True to her legacy, the building punctuates the neighborhood’s skyline in abstract form and features a swooping, ultramodern façade of steel and glass. The building contains 39 luxury residences and an extravagant array of amenities, most notably, the city’s first private IMAX theatre and a robotic parking valet.

Faena Arts Center is located in Mid-Beach, Miami, and is the cultural component to the greater Faena District. The cultural component consists of Faena Forum, a performance and exhibition space, Faena Bazaar, the retail component, and Faena Park, a five-level above and below-grade parking garage. Faena Forum is the most prominent building and consists of a base-truncated cylinder attached to a cube, all featuring a three-dimensional facade of crisscrossing concrete arches and catenaries.
