DeSimone Consulting Engineers will join the 2018 CTBUH Annual Conference to present modern methodologies and evolving technology in the design of structural damping for tall buildings. Stephen DeSimone, the firm’s President and Chief Executive, along with Senior Project Manager Pratik Shah will speak on “Performance Based Approach to Optimize Supplemental Damping Requirements for Tall Buildings.”
This year’s conference, titled “Polycentric Cities: The Future of Vertical Urbanism,” will host an international group of researchers and leading practitioners of tall building damping design. Drawing on 50 years of structural design in high-density urban centers, DeSimone’s presentation will illustrate a summary of predicted and measured behavior, and identify methodologies to optimize building performance and supplemental damping requirements for future projects. In situ measurements of tall building performance have empowered DeSimone’s team of structural experts to move beyond prescriptive stiffness and damping assumptions to not only optimize material use, but also to more accurately predict building performance throughout a wide range of load levels.
