DeSimone Senior Associate Rodolfo Medina sat down with Engineering News-Record’s Tom Stabile to discuss the reimagining and revitalization of Terminal Warehouse, a 133-year-old landmark in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, into a modern office and retail complex overlooking the Hudson.

Medina walks us through the incredible range of structural engineering challenges and interventions that DeSimone and architectural design lead COOKFOX navigated in transforming the hulking former industrial complex, while retaining the full-block railbed and massive arched brick entries at either end. Medina notes that the project involved “a combination of almost every imaginable building system you have from a structural perspective,” citing the mix of existing timber, steel, masonry and iron with new concrete, steel, glass, metal, and planted matter throughout the structure.
