This fall, P.S. 62-R was opened and dedicated on Staten Island, N.Y. The school, which was designed by SOM, is now called P.S. 62 The Kathleen Grimm School for Leadership and Sustainability at Sandy Ground. It is the city’s first net-zero energy school.
The 68,000-square-foot facility will produce as much energy as it uses on a daily basis. It will have a 50% reduction in energy use when compared to other new New York City school buildings.
