Tin Building

  • Historic three-story building originally built in 1907 was carefully dismantled and reconstructed at a higher elevation and 30 ft further east to shift it above the flood plain and away from the FDR’s shadow
  • The newly constructed building utilizes original structural components throughout. An additional story has been added on top of the building
  • In 2004, developers began converting the vacant building into the Renaissance Providence hotel
  • The new $77 million, 274-room hotel contains approximately 237,000 sf, including over 10,000 sf of ballroom and meeting areas, as well as a themed restaurant and spa
  • The landmarked facades were protected and repaired while a new structural system was installed
  • An eight-story addition containing guestrooms, meeting rooms and banquet facilities was built to the west of the historic structure and all the way up to the Veteran’s Memorial building
